Immunological mechanisms of desensitization by specific immunotherapy

As regards the mechanisms of action of specific immunotherapy, the first protective factor discovered resulted to be consisting in allergen-specific IgG antibodies. More recently, it has been demonstrated that immunotherapy induces a decrease of allergen-specific lymphocytes proliferative response, and the activation of T regulatory lymphocytes (Treg), able to inhibit immunological response of both Th2 and Th1 types.
